A-Levels

Advanced level qualifications (known as A-Levels) are UK subject-based qualifications. Students can normally study three or more subjects, which will enable them to enter higher education institutions in the UK and beyond. Certain countries, including those within the CIS region, do not have A- levels, and it can subsequently be more difficult to secure a place at a UK university for undergraduate studies. As a result, it is advised that students elect to study A-Levels where possible, once they finish their secondary education, which is usually at the of age 16.

At Students Avenue we have a team of professionals that will guide you on your subject choices for A-Levels and support you or your child in in the process of selecting and applying to private schools which will best suit your child’s needs and help you with the admissions process.

Our staff members have expertise in the UK education system and can explain the differences between the UK and European and American education systems, to ensure that you make the right choices for yourself or your child.

What a person studies at A-Level has significant implication on their application prospects for university, as many institutions have subject pre-requisites. During both our consultation and throughout the process, we will ensure that the student positions themselves in the best way to receive offers from their chosen universities.

A-Levels are provided by boarding schools where the pupils live in the campus and are not allowed to leave the campus without prior permission either from parents or a legal guardian. Additionally, it is a very safe environment for the students that encourages high educational standards as well as strong extra-curricular activities. The fee for boarding schools ranges from £20,000-£30,000 per year, which includes accommodation and the tuition. The duration of A-Levels is two years.

Foundation Year

If a student does not study A-Levels or IB, they will not meet the entry requirements for an undergraduate university course in the UK. One option for such a student would be for them to study a Foundation course, which in effect bridges the knowledge and language gap, which is necessary to get them ready to take on the undergraduate course.

We work alongside leading UK universities that allows us to advise you onto the right courses for your circumstance. Foundation years start from £9250, with the cost rising in accordance with the ranking of the university.

Undergraduate

British undergraduate degrees rank among the highest prestige globally. They offer an excellent opportunity for a student to explore a passion of theirs, allow them to learn to live independently, as well as equip them with fantastic career options after graduation.

Entry requirements vary significantly, especially for international students. Some institutions will accept students after their first year of undergraduate study in their home country, whilst others will accept based on international foundation programs. In any case, to apply for a UK programme, you will need to apply through UCAS. Furthermore, it is worth noting that the UK does not accept SAT scores, which is a US qualification, as part of entry requirements for admission onto a bachelors degree. For the vast majority of courses, it is either A-Levels, IB, or foundation years that will be considered.

The UCAS application process requires a good understanding, and we have experts at hand to assist throughout the process. From the initial form through to any interviews, we will support end-to-end. A UCAS application includes selecting 5 universities for consideration, and we offer a guarantee that our clients will receive at least 1 offer in the process.

Undergraduate fees start from £11,400, rising in line with the ranking of the university. Most bachelor’s degrees in the UK are for 3 years except in Scotland, where they are 4 years long. If a student applies for a university course with Foundation year, it will add 1-year to the program length. Additionally, some universities offer 4-year “sandwich programs”, which include 1 year in industry.

Master’s Degree

The UK offers world-leading postgraduate/ Masters courses. Many of these courses are one-year in length, compared with 2-year programs offered in many institutions across the US and Europe. The advantage of this is that it significantly reduces the costs associated with further study, whilst still providing highly respected accreditation.

Whilst undergraduate applications are submitted via UCAS, Master’s applications are almost always submitted directly to your target universities. Each university has its own deadline, although they typically fall in March or May. Spaces available for Masters courses are far fewer than that of undergraduate, and as a result competition can be fierce. For this reason, we advise applying as soon as possible for your place. If the course requires a portfolio, interview, or essay submission component, early application would also be advised. Scholarship application deadlines can also vary by institution, so it is important to monitor key dates of your target universities.

Our team of experts can help with your applications for postgraduate/ Masters study. We have a strong track record, with clients who have received offers from Russell Group universities in the UK: including Kings’ College, UCL and LSE . We specialize in the higher tier of universities in the UK, where specialist knowledge of entry requirements and institution preferences can make a significant difference to the chances of receiving an offer.
